Minutes of Special Meeting January 20, 2015

Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm.
This meeting was held to discuss draft article 10 of the proposed Town Meeting warrant:
To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate the sum of $2,500 for the purpose of contracting herbicide treatment of invasive species at Carpenter Park and to further authorize the withdrawal of $2,500 from the Forest Maintenance Fund for that purpose.
Discussion: The Trustees of Trusts previously commented that they do not believe that money can be used from the Forest Maintenance Fund for Carpenter Park as the park has not been designated a town forest. Removal of the article from the warrant as well as introduction of an additional article designating Carpenter Park a town forest were discussed. The possibility of an additional article was not supported as such a proposal should be coordinated with other Town boards and that town forest designation may create conflicts with recreational uses of the parcel. Other means of funding the weed control project, including Conservation Fund or future budget funding were discussed. It was generally agreed that the immediate goal was to decide whether to leave the article in the warrant and to decide
funding of the project at future meetings.
Action: Motion to request deletion of the article from the warrant moved and seconded. All were in favor.
